Stuck in the Mud Cake.

Staying at my mum's always results in baking. Usually there is no reason, we just fancy brownies, or cakes... whatever! But my mum has always made us birthday cakes, she's pretty good at cake decorating and did do it for a career at one point. We've all been encouraged to bake and decorate, even when we were really little.Image

Now we're getting older, and my mum is getting lazy! So now I make my sister a cake for her birthday, she makes me one etc.

This is her cake! It was her birthday in December, so it is actually a really late blog post, but I'd forgotten about this and I've just been clearing through my drafts and I actually felt really annoyed that I didn't upload this! It took me about an hour to assemble, not including the time it took to dye the icing, count out the Kitkats and realise I didn't quite have enough, search frantically for the cocoa and make the gnash. I think all in all it was a 3 hour job.

It was a chocolate cake, with chocolate filling, kitkat decorations for the er... wooden barrel effect, pink icing for the piggies and a chocolate gnash which made up the muddy middle. There were also two types of chocolate sprinkles to give it a bit of texture!

Definitely had a chocolate hang over for a few days. I've seen some really awesome versions of this cake floating around on the internet! Not a bad first attempt though, even if I do say so myself!

Has anyone else tried a similar cake? :-)
