*It's a long one!*
I received a gift set of Colour Couture nail varnish at Christmas and it's been sat looking lonely for far too long! I have a lot of nail polish, so I'm trying to either avoid buying it, or to be ruthless and sort out the colours and bottles that I'm not wearing and will probably not wear again.

Initially the shades didn't strike me as anything special. To make matters worse, the bottles and the packaging seem to be lacking in terms of names! So I have no idea how I'm supposed to repurchase any if by some miracle I use the bottle up.
The gift set came with four shades of polish, three cuticle sticks and a double sided nail file. The shades of polish are basically what I would class as; metallic blue, metallic gunmetal, metallic red and what I thought was a 'dirty silver' colour which is actually purple! It looks silver on the bottle, but if you shine light on it (I used a torch) it is actually a rather nice shade of purple. Sadly they have no names, numbers or any other way of identifying them. After Googling the polish I can't seem to find the bottles I have. However if you're interested in trying out some magnetic nail polish, then Barry M do a nice looking one.

The red is clearly red, and the blue is clearly blue, but the gunmetal and purple look really similar in shade whilst they're in the bottle, so to tell them apart I had to put them in direct light. When applied in some light the purple looks blue... Despite the lack of identification I would LOVE to buy more shades of this. The polish itself has lasted me nearly four days, which is pretty good in my books, only my index finger and thumb are showing signs of damage. I know my Barry M polishes usually last me 2-3 days before I start chipping, I don't know if their version of metallic polish is any better, I may have to try some... Only one bottle of polish has the magnetic topper, the blue, identified by those squiggles on the lid.

Anyway, the polish itself is really quite nice alone, the brushes give you good coverage and don't clump or streak the polish, and it dries uber quickly.

In order to use the magnetic feature of the polish, you have to use the lid with the magnet on top. In my gift set, only the magnetic blue had the magnet attached to the lid, which was okay, but proved a pain when I wanted to use the blue one in my opinion, as you have to wiggle your hand funny to get the magnet on without touching the exposed brush. The pattern on my magnet is like an upwards arrow, and on my first attempt my nails had a diagonal pattern, but by the time I was onto my last few fingers I'd got the placement just right and had the arrow shape! To use the polish:
- Apply base coat
- Paint a single layer or polish on each nail and leave to dry
- Doing each individual nail separately apply a second coat and quickly hover the magnet above the nail, holding in place for about 15-20 seconds. (There is a little bump to rest on your finger so you don't accidentally stick the magnet in the polish...)
- Repeat for other fingers
- Once all are dry, apply a top coat

It's really simple, although when I read the instructions I had to do deep breathing and nail yoga because I was convinced I was going to make a hash of it and it wouldn't look anything like it did on the box! But my nails looked amazing! And I've had three people at work comment on them and ask how I've done them. I'm going to wipe it all off tonight and try the red colour! :-) I've also been have a look on Amazon, and there are quite a few brands that do this sort of thing... Rio do the most expensive set I've seen at £29.99, but you do get five different magnets, and eat one creates a different effect, their finger print one looks pretty cool. You can also buy magnets alone for about £4 each, they have different designs on like hearts, circles, swirly patterns and so on...
Here are all the colours after the magnet has been applied. Eeeek I love these so much! In the image below, excuse the wiggles and uneven pattern... I'm still getting the hang of perfect placement.

Do any of you actually empty bottles of nail polish? Or do you chuck them out when they go a bit funny? I'm interested to see how many people actually use up all their polish :') Also, if anyone knows what the shades are really called, please feel free to comment the names/numbers! <3
I love magnetic polish. I was lucky enough to get a few nails inc ones for Christmas a few years ago anduthey chipped quickly too. Shame really as I love the finish. Maybe the chipping is to do with the magnetic bits? I love these colours. X
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is! I never really thought too much into the magnetic chips being the reason. The fingers that were not chipped seemed to peel instead, but I definitely love it! I'm interested to see what would happen if I grabbed a magnet off the fridge and experimented lol. x
